My First Manufacturing Journey

My First Manufacturing Journey

Twelve Years in the Making: The Leap That Changed Rebecca

Some milestones are about more than what you've made. They're about how far you've come, what you've learned along the way, and what happens when you finally give yourself permission to take the next step.

For me, this is one of those moments.

I started Tonē Bekka in 2012, making every bag by hand. That was how I began building the business and bringing my designs into the world, one bag at a time.

But as the years went on, I knew I wanted to take Tonē Bekka further. I wanted to move into manufacturing and see what was possible for the brand and the designs I'd been creating.

For a long time, it was something I talked about doing. I imagined it, considered it, and kept coming back to the idea.

Then, in 2024, I decided it was time to stop talking about it and take the leap.

The decision to take the leap

Moving into manufacturing was a significant step. It meant investing in my vision, committing thousands to bring it to life, and trusting myself to move forward without knowing exactly how everything would unfold.

It wasn't just about producing bags differently. It was about allowing Tonē Bekka to grow into the next version of itself.

I'd spent years building the business by hand. Now, I was stepping into a new process, learning along the way, and making decisions that would shape what came next.

It took time. The journey from taking that leap in 2024 to having the finished bags in my hands in 2026 was longer than I might have wished. But today, I can say that my first manufactured line has arrived.

Thirty bags. Thousands of dollars invested. And a milestone that represents years of work, not just the last two.

Rebecca has evolved, too

One of the most meaningful parts of this journey is seeing how Rebecca has changed.

The Rebecca I made by hand is not exactly the Rebecca you're meeting today. The original design was the beginning, but moving into manufacturing gave me the opportunity to refine her and be more intentional about the details.

The goal wasn't to make Rebecca into something completely different. It was to elevate what was already there.

The new Rebecca includes a few thoughtful updates:

A back pocket. An added detail that brings extra everyday convenience to the design.

Refined edges. The original bag featured raw edging. The manufactured version has refined edges that give Rebecca a more polished finish.

Two straps, two ways to carry. Rebecca comes with a short leather strap for a more intimate, polished carry and an adjustable crossbody strap for hands-free days when life is moving a little faster.

These details matter because a bag has to do more than look beautiful. It has to work with the woman carrying it.

Sometimes you want to hold your bag close and keep the look understated. Other times, you need your hands free to move through the day. I wanted Rebecca to offer both.

The result is a version of the design that feels more refined while keeping the spirit of the original.

And to me, that's what growth looks like: knowing what makes something special, then having the patience and vision to make it even better.

More than a manufactured bag

It's easy to look at a finished product and see only what is in front of you.

But when I look at Rebecca, I see the years of making bags by hand. I see the idea of manufacturing that I kept returning to. I see the decision I made in 2024 to stop waiting and take a chance on what I had been building.

I see the investment, the learning curve, the waiting, and the commitment it took to bring this collection to life.

And I see how much can change when you decide to move forward with something you've believed in for years.

Tonē Bekka didn't begin with this collection. This collection is the next chapter of a business I've been building since 2012.

That's an important distinction to me. I'm not starting over. I'm building on everything that came before.

And now, the bags are here

After all the planning and waiting, my first manufactured line has arrived.

I'm excited in a way that's difficult to put into words. There's pride in seeing the finished bags, gratitude for having made it to this point, and a little disbelief that something I spent so long imagining is finally here.

The Rebecca Crossbody will officially launch on October 30, with early access for my email subscribers on October 29. Her retail price will be $697.

But before the launch, I wanted to share the story behind this moment — because the finished bags are only one part of it.

The other part is the journey: from making every bag by hand to taking the leap into manufacturing, and from the original Rebecca to the more refined version I'm finally able to share with you.

Here's to the next chapter

When I think about starting Tonē Bekka in 2012, I couldn't have known exactly what the journey would look like. I only knew I wanted to build something of my own.

In 2024, I made a decision that moved the business in a new direction. Now, in 2026, I get to hold the result of that decision in my hands.

Rebecca has evolved. Tonē Bekka has grown. And I've learned that taking a leap doesn't mean leaving everything behind. Sometimes, it means honoring what you've already built enough to let it become something more.

I'm proud that I started. I'm proud that I kept going. And I'm proud that I finally took that next step.

Thank you for being here, whether you've followed Tonē Bekka since the handmade days or you're discovering the brand now. I'm happy to share this chapter with you.

The bags have arrived. Rebecca is almost ready to meet you.

And this is only the next chapter.

With love,

Jovanna Robinson
