The Founder
"You deserve more than a bag that just holds your things. You deserve one that holds space for you — your confidence, your style, the fullness of who you are. That's exactly why I started Tonē Bekka."
HI, I'M JOVANNA.
I've been obsessed with leather for as long as I can remember. The way it feels in your hands. The way it softens and shapes itself to you over time. The fact that when you invest in something real, it actually gets better. I couldn't find a bag that lived up to that — beautiful and functional, stylish and practical — so I did what any design student with a two-year-old and a class assignment to complete. I made one myself.
THE MOMENT THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING
It was a class project at Columbus College of Art and Design. My daughter was almost three, and honestly? I needed a new bag. I wasn't willing to carry a diaper bag because that screamed "mom bag" — I still wanted to feel like me. So I made a leather bag that could hold sippy cups and snacks and pullups without looking like it was trying to.
I wore it out into the world. And then, on a regular Tuesday in Target in 2010, a stranger stopped me mid-aisle.
"I love your bag."
Three words. That was it. That was the moment I knew this was bigger than a class project. Women started asking if I'd make one for them. And just like that, Tonē Bekka was born — not from a business plan, but from a real need and a stranger who saw something worth stopping for.
THE CRAFT BEHIND EVERY BAG
For over a decade, I handcrafted every single Tonē Bekka bag myself. Hand-selecting the hides. Cutting every piece. Assembling every detail by hand. It's slow work, and I wouldn't have it any other way — because that's where the quality lives. Customers tell me all the time: the first thing they notice is how the bag feels. The weight of it. The way the leather sits. The way it's built to actually last. That's the standard I set from day one, and it's never changed.
As the brand has grown and I've moved toward my first production line, I've partnered with manufacturers who hold that same obsession for quality. The craft is still there — it's just scaled up. Every bag still carries the DNA of that first one I made in school.
WHO I MAKE THESE FOR
I make these bags for the woman who's done choosing. The mom who still wants to feel like herself. The maker who needs function but refuses to look like she settled. The woman who carries the world and wants her bag to know it — without ever giving herself away in the process.
You're style-driven and real-life-tested. You want artisan quality you can actually feel. And you deserve something as intentional as you are.
For style-driven women — mothers, makers, and multitaskers — who refuse to choose between who they are and the life they carry, Tonē Bekka delivers artisan craftsmanship and unapologetic style in one. Because every woman deserves to carry something as intentional as she is, without ever losing herself in the process.
That's the luxury of being you.
